On April 30, 1949, the Gamma Sigma Chapter at Arkansas A.M.& N. College, Pine Bluff was established under the auspices of the Little Rock (AR) Alumni Chapter. Probation for the pledges was said to have been the greatest to ever hit any Arkansas campus. There were eighteen probates, all of whom were sharp every day of probation.

After the initiation ceremony a banquet was held at the beautiful “Grill” just off the campus. The toastmaster for the occasion was Brother Oba White, Keeper of Records of Little Rock Alumni. The highlight of the evening was the address by Brother Cornelius A. Ladnere, Province Polemarch. Other interesting remarks were made by Brother Lucius Monroe, Polemarch for Little Rock Alumni.

The Charter Members Initiated Were: Whittaker Allen, Clyde Berryman, Thomas Brunson, Hubert O. Clemmons, Author Elliott, Haarlan Fiddmont, Walter Greenberry, Henry Jackson, Clyde Mangrun, John Moran, Marion Piggee, Joe Smith, John Stafford, Nazaree Tippens, Curtis Turner, John Watson, John Wilson, and Maurice William.

Although this chapter was established during the spring quarter of 1949 we are striving to carry all of the ideals that Kappa has held and stood for always.
